01 · Overview

One experience across hardware and software

Strikeman connects a physical target and laser cartridge with a mobile app for dry-fire practice without live ammunition.

A compatible laser cartridge inside the firearm produces a laser signal during practice. The phone’s camera detects hits on the target, and the app turns them into session feedback and progress over time. Users follow the manufacturer’s safety and setup guidance before training.

Mobile app

02 · Context & role

Build on engineering progress with dedicated UX leadership

The original app predates the company’s acquisition. Since then, the in-house development team has continued releasing updates and improving the product. Dedicated UX leadership had been a gap in that effort.

As Product Design Lead, I’m bringing a cohesive design direction and real user evidence into the next phase of the app.

My focus is to connect interface decisions, a reusable design foundation, and usability research so the team can prioritize improvements around how people actually use the product.

03 · Design foundation

Create a shared foundation for upcoming releases

I began by delivering high-fidelity wireframes alongside a design system I built with assistance from Codex. I led the design direction; Codex supported the system-building work.

Delivered
High-fidelity wireframes defining the proposed experience.
Implemented
The development team has implemented the design system.
Upcoming
My screen designs are planned for future app updates.

Why this foundation matters: a shared system gives design and development a consistent basis for implementing and iterating on the experience.

04 · User research

Test the first Flutter draft with real users

I’m currently recruiting participants for an onsite, unmoderated usability test at our office.

I planned the study to gather real user data from the first draft of the Flutter app. The aim is to understand where the experience supports users and where it still creates friction before shaping the next design iterations.

05 · Results & next steps

A foundation delivered, validation still ahead

The design system is implemented and the high-fidelity wireframes are delivered. Testing and the rollout of my screen designs are still ahead, so there are no validated usability results or outcome metrics to report yet.

Next: complete recruitment, run the planned study, and use the findings to inform design iterations with the development team.

This case study will grow with the research findings, resulting design decisions, and evidence from future releases.
